About This Home

Residents at Parkview are encouraged to engage in external activities, with staff facilitating referrals to local community centres, libraries, or voluntary roles in charity shops to support reintegration after hospital stays. Each resident has a bedroom and shares facilities like the lounge and kitchen. The rehabilitation programme encourages room cleaning, meal preparation (with supervision), and personal care tasks like hygiene, dressing, and bathing, supported by a key worker system and risk assessments. Residents enjoy breakfast, lunch, tea, and supper with a choice of three culturally sensitive menus tailored to Afro-Caribbean and White traditions, prepared by a qualified cook. Two industrial washing machines and tumble dryers are available for resident use under staff supervision. There is no time limit on stay, and residents are supported to transition to more independent accommodation when ready. In acute crises, hospital admission may be arranged. Visitors are welcome in communal areas until 10:00 p.m., with no overnight stays, and residents can invite family to meals with two days’ notice for a small fee. Pets are not allowed for health and safety reasons. Smoking is permitted in a designated area and the garden, with ground-floor rooms equipped with smoke extractors for residents with mobility issues. Residents can organize their own outings, and the home arranges weekly van trips to parks, beaches, or places of interest, plus annual group outings like an 'Away Weekend' or seaside day trip.

STATEMENT ON ACTIVITIES

Person-Centred Mental Health Activities

At our homes, each week is shaped around meaningful and engaging activities tailored to each Service User’s individual interests, abilities, and mental health needs.

🗓️ Weekly Staff Consultation:

Staff meet weekly with Service Users to co-create a flexible and person-centred programme. There is no fixed Monday–Sunday timetable—activities change weekly and are adapted daily to reflect mood, energy, motivation, and wellbeing. Participation is always optional, supporting choice, control, and independence.

😊 Tracking Wellbeing & Outcomes

We use simple mood-tracking tools before and after activities to measure emotional wellbeing and outcomes, including:

  • • 😌 Reduced anxiety
  • • 🙂 Improved mood
  • • 💪 Increased confidence
  • • 🧠 Better emotional regulation
  • • 🤝 Reduced isolation

All feedback and observations are recorded and used to review and tailor care plans, ensuring activities remain meaningful and effective.

🎨 Flexible, Innovative & Therapeutic Activities

Activities are creative, therapeutic, and adapted daily to meet individual needs. Examples include:

  • • 🌬️ Mindfulness and relaxation
  • • 🌿 Sensory and grounding activities
  • • 🎨 Creative expression (art, journaling, music)
  • • 🎶 Movement and chair-based exercises
  • • 🙏 Reflection and wellbeing exercises
  • • 💻 Digital and interactive tools
  • • 🤝 Resident-led and co-created sessions

These activities support engagement, coping strategies, and overall mental wellbeing.

Menu Statement Parkview Home

Our menu is multicultural and thoughtfully designed to reflect the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and preferences of the people living in our homes. We hold weekly consultations with service users to review and adapt the menu, ensuring it remains responsive, inclusive, and person-centred. Wherever possible, requested meals are prepared, reflecting our commitment to choice, dignity, and individual preference.

Seasonal menus are developed for both summer and winter, incorporating fresh, seasonal ingredients. These are also shaped through consultation with service users. We are fully committed to meeting individual dietary requirements, including vegetarian, diabetic, cultural, and medically advised diets, ensuring all meals are balanced, nutritious, and aligned with CQC guidance on nutrition and hydration.

The menu offers a wide variety of options designed to meet the tastes, preferences, and dietary needs of all service users, supporting both health and enjoyment at mealtimes.

We also regularly organise communal cooking sessions where service users and staff prepare meals together in the shared kitchen. These sessions are treated as social and therapeutic activities, often accompanied by music and shared dining experiences. On occasion, other homes are invited to join for shared meals, promoting social connection, inclusion, and wellbeing in a warm community environment.

Service Users’ Kitchen 🍳

The service users’ kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances to support independence and enjoyment in cooking, including a Ninja multi-cooker, air fryer, ice cream maker, bread maker (also used for yoghurt, cake, and jam preparation), and a pizza oven. These facilities make communal cooking more accessible, engaging, and efficient, encouraging participation and life skills development.

We also provide a DE’Longhi coffee machine, offering Americano and espresso coffee for service users during cooking and baking sessions. Music is often played to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, making the experience social and therapeutic.

These arrangements promote independence, choice, and active participation in line with CQC expectations for safe, supportive, and person-centred care environments.
